Abstract:
A thorough introductory to advanced level textbook of quantum physics with the analytical-quantum approach loved by the older quantum physicists. Discusses in substantial detail important experimental data together with computed curves from quantum theory for the (Max Planck) black-body radiation, photoelectric effect (Albert Einstein), Compton scattering at different angles, calculations of density of states in 3D, Fermi level in metals, lots of solved problems with all detailed solutions, useful quantum exercises, systems of coupled (quantum) harmonic oscillators, fundamental theorems in quantum theory, Legendre polynomials, spherical Hankel functions, spherical Bessel functions, Hermite polynomials, spin wave functions, Hamiltonians, relativistic corrections to quantum calculations, radiation theory, magnetic radiative transitions, quantum selection rules, Clebsch-Gordan coefficients, S-matrix, transistion amplitude matrix, quantum applications of the calculus of variations, FTs, Kronecker and Dirac deltas, gauge transformations, magnetic fields in matter, quantized magnetic moments, relativistic quantum fields, lots of figures and clear illustrations, very selective, basic references in quantum physics, and much more. Missing however seem to be the quantum operator algebras and the quantum foundations of von Neumann's algebras and subsequent subfactor theory, or any of the subsequent quantum logics approach. Still a fantastically valuable textbook for analytical/numerical calculations in quantum physics.
