volume (Definition)

Volume is a property associated with a finite region of space. The volume occupied by a given region of space $\Omega$ is typically denoted by the symbol $V$. It is always possible to subdivide a given region into smaller sub-regions. The symbol $dV$ is often used to denote the volume occupied by an arbitrarily small region of space. Thus the total volume occupied by $\Omega$ can be expressed as:

$\displaystyle V = \int_{\Omega} dV $
