``types for PP'' by mathforever on 2005-04-07 10:38:20
Here the second message goes ;)))

It is not about an error but about proposal to add another forum: (similarly to PM)

Name: PlanetPhyisc Comments
Description: Talk about the web site itself here; comments, suggestions, complaints.

What I write further should be actually posted there.

I would like to discuss the types which are used for PP-entries. For the moment the types of the entries in PP corresponds to the types used in PM, i.e.

Axiom
Corollary
Definition
Data Structure
Result
Conjecture
Example
Biography
Topic
Application
Derivation
Proof
Theorem
Algorithm

Let us group these types according to some criteria.

-----
BASIC THINGS:
  Axiom
  Definition
  Biography
  Topic

what is measing in the above list is
Law - Like Newton's law, Hooke's law, Planck's law, etc....
  Experiment - Like Michelson-Morley experiment
-----
DERIVED THINGS:
(in the sense that the information located in below types is derived from information in the BASIC)

  Derivation
  Example
  Application

  Theorem
  Conjecture
  Proof
  Corollary
  Result
-----

The types which are ussual for math but probably are not needed for phys:

Data Structure
Algorithm

***************************

So, to summarize, one needs Law, Experiment type and could throw "Data Structure" and "Algorithm". There are probably also other types which are specific for phys and I have missed, but Law and Experiment should be added, and some existing entries should be already typed as Law instead of Theorem.

Serg.
