Well, if you consider energies then yes it must be at rest.
I am trying to use forces to analyze the problem more thoroughly, but I am not getting the same results. (In fact I got X = 5mg/12).
But I think the mistake in my analysis is that I took the motion of the particle to be simple harmonic. The motion is NOT simple harmonic, right?
