| It seems a global problem. In China we have the same problem. I prefer calling the gradient operator (\nabla) just "Nabla", in case of cunfusing with the Laplace operator \nabla^2 which is often called "del" and written in \Delta. As for the \partial, I prefer "partial-d" (I pronounce the word as it is in English, not in Chinese manner). Strangely enough my teacher always say "rum" (it's difficult to spell what exactly it is). I don't know anything sounding like "rum" that is related to the operator, neither in English nor Chinese!
In fact in the Chinese language we have our own way to "say" a formula but I don't like it. |
