If the free particle has constant inertial-frame velocity v and the observer has velocity u(t), then
v' = v - u(t).
Therefore
a' = dv'/dt = -du/dt,
not +du/dt.
This sign is physically important: if the observer accelerates in the +x direction, a free particle appears to accelerate in the -x direction relative to that observer. |
